If you overuse licorice tea, it may lead to some negative effects. Licorice side effects are due to the existence of a component called glycyrrhizic acid.

High consumption of licorice tea increases blood pressure and reduces potassium level in body. It results in irregular heartbeat and is dangerous for people with heart diseases. Individuals suffering from kidney problems or who had a stroke, must limit drinking of licorice tea. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, it is better to consult with your doctor. Furthermore, it may interact with some medications and drugs. So, if you take any kind of drugs, before using licorice, surely ask your doctor about that.
